St. Valentine, the patron saint of love, was executed in the 3rd century for performing christian marriages. Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th, the day that St. Valentine was commemorated in christianity. He was originally buried in Rome, but in 1835, Irish priest Fr. John Spratt convinced Pope Gregory XVI to exhume his remains and bring St. Valentine home to Ireland. Today, St. Valentine's remains are located within the Whitefriar Street Church in Dublin, Ireland.
