Connemara Marble

Connemara is a prominent region in the west of Ireland, renowned for its natural, rugged beauty and its rare marble. Connemara marble is known for its unique green like colour and is thought to date back approximately 600 million years. The marble itself is thought to be one of the rarest in the world due to its restricted supply, and its “forty shades of green” are treasured as a representation of the scenery and landscapes that form Ireland. Connemara marble has been extracted by the Joyce family in Galway since 1822 through their quarry in Clifden. The Joyce family name has become iconic in this way and they remain heavily associated with the production and supply of Connemara Marble. Many famous buildings contain the precious marble, from the Galway Cathedral to the US Senate Building in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Connemara marble remains a popular inspiration for artisans and crafters to this day, with the marble becoming a popular stone used in many different types of jewellery. Rosary beads and pendants containing Connemara marble have become very fashionable due to the fusion of Irish culture with modern jewellery. Our Connemara Rosary beads are very popular and make a perfect gift for all occasions! : https://www.biddymurphy.com/products/connemara-marble-rosary-made-in-ireland
