Dia Duit!
Hello! I'm Róisín and I will be interning at Biddy Murphy for the duration of the summer. In case you were wondering, Róisín is pronounced “Ro-sheen” and broadly translates to Rose in Irish. I am originally from Belfast, in the North of Ireland, however I now live in Dublin and study Business and Law at UCD. Living in the capital has made me fall in love with Ireland all over again, from the historic landmarks to the good “craic” found in Temple Bar, Ireland really has a unique entity as one of the most all round beautiful and intriguing countries with regards to culture, history and the people themselves. This ethos was demonstrated in the European Soccer Championships this year, with the Irish yet again stealing the title of the best supporters!
I am visiting “Mitchigan” (how us Irish pronounce it) with a program that seeks to provide internships for students in Ireland, with the help of generous host families and charitable sponsors. Through this, I met Ward and Mary Gahan, my American “mummy and daddy” and owners of Biddy Murphy. Living with them already feels like my home away from home! I am excited to work in such an authentic and hospitable business, given my love of all things Irish and its accurate reminder of home. The products that Biddy Murphy offers are a true reflection of Irish culture, tradition and all the great things that Ireland has to offer, from beautiful claddagh jewellery to handmade wool scarves and Connemara marble. All of products on offer make perfect gifts for all occasions whilst encapsulating all that is great and charming about Ireland. I am looking forward to what the summer ahead has to offer and the good craic and new experiences that I am sure to encounter in the US!
